BALCONY ROLL UP SHADE

 Buy a shade cloth which is around 50 Rs a meter. Make it double as per the balcony dimensions. Here the dimensions are 6 feet by 8 feet. 

The shade works on the supports and roll up is achieved by the round guides. Here for top and bottom 4 inch by 6 feet and one inch and 6 feet. The top and bottom support should be a single piece so that the load is taken evenly. Here two top supports are used as the work was done from the left over pieces. The best result is with single piece. 

Drill two holes each. These are top two supports, after the supports are sewn to the shade the two should be joined to make them rigid and single piece. If a single piece is available use that. 

Sew the supports with a needle and using a twine thread. 

Sew/ fix the intermediate support. Use wood beading as intermediate support. It will be quick and cheap. Use twine and needle to fix the supports. Ensure that the supports are inside the fold so that they are hidden.

Like this. attach key rings to the bottom most support and every alternate supports at two places equidistant to guide the rope. Attach key rings to the top support. 

Cut the rope, use the two holes made on the top support, and make a loop to tie the shade. 

The rings should be on alternate supports and equidistant from the centre. Cut two long pieces of tope. One rope to be routed in the keyrings on the left and the other rope from the key rings on the right. Tie two pieces to one another at the center of the bottom support. It can be tied to the bottom support or just tie the two ends of the rope. Ensure the other end (top support) of the two topes goes seperately thro the two guide rings. The two guide rings to be anchored by a steel wire to the top right end of the top bracket. 

The guide rings anchoring and the rope travel at the top bracket right end is shown in these photographs. 

The shade is done. It can be rolled up by pulling the two ropes and anchoring it or it can be rolled down by slackening the ropes. 

The cost of bamboo roll up padada is 70 Rs / sq feet. For this exercise the bamboo roll up padada would cost around 3500 Rs. This roll up padada costs about 600 Rs. 

GARDEN SHADE

 

Make a plan. Get the angle iron welded as per the plan. Typically it should not be less than 6 feet in height and 6 feet in breadth. Length can be as per the available space. The welded angle frames should have about 5 cm holes at the top horizontal angle iron and 10 mm holes for anchoring the frames by nails to the side walls. 

Mount the frames with nails. use steel wire to anchor it also the same steel wire would give support to the cladding. Mount the frames. Notice the mounting on walls and the steel wire support in the pictures.  

Buy a 70 percent or 50 percent shade green. it is aroung 50 Rs a meter. Spread the cloth over the steel wires covering the frames. Take a big needle (सुवा) and sew the cloth so that it covers the frames and gives the shade as required.

CARPET PROTECTION

 To protect a rolled carpet from dust ingress and insect menace, both the rolled ends needs to be covered. covering it with a cloth gives a shabby look, instead take a small piece of cloth, cut a round piece covering the end of the carpet roll. Stitch suitable side covering to the circular piece. Stitch an elastic so that the carpet roll end protector snugly fits the carpet end.
